The Public Affairs section is the Press, Culture and Education section of the Embassy. The explosion that the world has witnessed in information and information technology has expanded the amount of information people seek in these areas, and has transformed our means of accessing that information.
Press inquiries to any section of the Embassy should be directed in the first instance
to the Public Affairs Officer at the
Public Affairs section.
Our head office in Washington produces an electronic file, called the Washington File, every
working day. The easiest access to it, for users of the World Wide Web, is to click on the
button above. There is also an edited version containing key items of local interest, The Washington Line which the Public Affairs section
distributes to members of the press and government officials and which the user can
download to his hard disk and read in his word processor.
The PAS administers a variety of educational exchange programs, including the Fulbright program. Although opportunities for undergraduate scholarships are nearly nonexistent, very large numbers of students come to the U.S. each year to take advantage of our highly advanced and frequently very specialized educational programs. PA does have an education advisor who provides valuable information to individuals who have their own or other institutional means to study in the U.S., and need to know how to go about finding an appropriate university, how to apply, and how to prepare for student life in America. This office also provides information on the required examinations for entry into college and graduate programs only.
